September 30, 2003 Large LNG Satellite Plant Installed A team of Ferox engineers is presently working to complete the installation of one of the World’s largest LNG satellite plants at Hydro Aluminium at Sunndalsora, Norway. The
plant includes three perlite- and vacuum insulated 500.000 liter tanks
and two sets of three ambient air vaporizers supported by a gas-fired
hot water vaporizer and trim heater.
NaturgassVest (NGV), who is responsible for this project and all Natural Gas supplies to Hydro Aluminium Sunndalsora will ship the LNG for this installation by a special 1000 m³ LNG carrier from NGV’s liquefier at Kollsnes. Tomas Fiksdal, the NGV Project Manager, states: “Natural Gas, while a cleaner-burning and lower cost fuel than LPG or diesel, has primarily been used in large quantities when supplied by pipeline. However, with problem-free operation of hundreds of satellite plants worldwide, the handling and storing of LNG has now proven its value. Because of this and the increased availability of LNG, we expect a rapid growth of the use of LNG in Norway. We chose Ferox for this installation because of their extensive experience with cryogenic installations and their ability to supply turn-key. The installation is on schedule and is expected to be in operation beginning of November“
